Update on Medicare Parts C and D

Senate bill

A proposal by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services states that dentists who write prescriptions for Medicare Part D will not be required to enroll in an approved status or validly opt out of Medicare in order for their patients’ prescriptions to be covered under Medicare Part D. Further, dentists will not be required to affirmatively opt in to Medicare to be a participating provider for Medicare Advantage plans.

However, dentists who wish to participate in Delta Dental’s networks cannot opt out of Medicare as communicated in Delta Dental’s June 2016 contract amendment.

A final ruling on this proposal is expected in early 2018.
