New clinic will treat patients with
special needs

Patients with special needs will be able to receive dental and health care services in a single Ann Arbor facility when its temporary location opens in January 2018, while the permanent clinic is being built.

The Delta Dental Integrated Special Care Clinic, which is a partnership between the University of Michigan Dental School and the Delta Dental Foundation (DDF), was made possible through a $2 million grant from the DDF. The clinic will improve access to dental care for patients with developmental disabilities, cognitive impairments, complex medical problems, significant medical limitations, veterans with PTSD and the vulnerable elderly. In addition, U-M dental, dental hygiene and graduate students will learn how to assess, treat and manage the needs of these patients.

The temporary clinic will be outfitted with six treatment rooms and will provide services until construction of the full clinic is completed in 2020 as part of the U-M Dental School building project.

The gift represents the largest grant ever awarded by the Delta Dental Foundation.
