Great Lakes Bay Health Centers—With funding from the Delta Dental Foundation (DDF), Great Lakes Bay Health Centers has added a third dental bus for its Smiles Are Everywhere oral health program. DDF provided $219,508 for the new bus and for rewrapping the exterior of the other two Great Lakes Bay Health Centers’ buses. A floss-cutting ceremony was held June 6 at the Saginaw YMCA to celebrate.
The buses travel to more than 85 schools across the Great Lakes Bay region and beyond to provide care to more than 4,300 students each year. The buses also provide care for more than 1,200 migrant farm workers, and they travel to health fairs and community events. No one is turned away for care, and those who require follow-up attention are referred to one of the Great Lakes Bay Health Centers’ permanent locations.
Cherry Health’s Barry Community Health Center—DDF representatives traveled to the new site of Cherry Health’s Barry Community Health Center in Hastings for a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the construction and renovation of a new facility that will expand oral and overall health care for Barry County residents. The $1.3 million project was funded in part with $200,000 from the DDF, which will cover the cost of dental equipment for five dental treatment rooms. The health center is set to open and begin treatment in the fall of 2017.
