Launched by Altarum Institute in 2016, Michigan’s Dental Registry (MiDRSM) is a statewide children’s oral health monitoring system.
Within MiDR, doctors can document preventive oral health services provided, insert notes for the dentist to review and place referrals directly to dentists who accept patients with Healthy Kids Dental coverage. Referrals are transmitted via fax to the dental office, and the dental office can then look up the patient record directly and update it as needed.
Additionally, this new tool can help providers engage in federal incentive programs. MiDR is classified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as a Meaningful Use Specialized Registry.
More than 1,500 physicians and dentists use MiDR. Data collected by the tool is submitted to the state of Michigan, creating a valid, reportable data system for monitoring access to pediatric oral health services and overall dental caries rates.
