      XMetaL Developer is compatible with Visual Studio 15.xx/16.xx releases, including the free Community Edition versions. Updated XMetaL API java script intellisense support is compatible with most recent releases of Visual Studio.
    • XMetaL Author and XMetaL XMAX 16.0 support
      XMetaL Developer is compatible with this most recent release of XMetaL products and XMetaL API.
    • Updated Programmer’s and Customization Guides
      XMetaL Developer’s documentation is updated to reflect the latest changes in the XMetaL Author and XMetaL XMAX 16.0 software.
    • External events handling API
      New XMetaL API allows running macros asynchronously when XMetaL entered idle state and is triggered by external events: “specific time elapsed”, specific file(s) changed or specific application terminated. XMetaL can be customized for monitoring the status of specific files in folders or running processes. Changing specific files via third party applications or terminating a process triggers running the customization macro scripts asynchronously.
    • The updated Java application toolkit is compatible with XMetaL 16.0
    • New test container application for XMetaL XMAX.
      The desktop application allows testing and debugging XMAX customizations in Visual Studio.
      The desktop application supports basic file operations, resources viewing, and finding and running macros – it can be used as a standalone application for testing customizations that were built in XMetaL Developer.
    • Improved XMetaL CSS editor
    • XMetaL Developer supports building and debugging application level XMetaL Application Customizations (XAC).
    • XMetaL Developer provides support for application-level macro script debugging without using XAC.
    • Updated XMetaL macro file format allows providing paths to native script files (instead of using xml CDATA sections of in macro file) in application level macros. XMetaL provides all required data to Visual Studio for direct access to source script files during debugging.

    Important License Changes

    With the release of version 9.0, the software no longer requires an Internet connection to register or unregister a per-seat license. A new license file (e.g. XMDE.lic) is required to activate this software.

    Note: Older .lic files are incompatible with this version.

    System Requirements

    XMetaL® Developer is a plug-in to Microsoft® Visual Studio®. Your system must have one of the Microsoft Visual Studio standard language products, e.g., Microsoft Visual Basic® .NET Standard, or alternatively Visual Studio .NET Enterprise or Professional versions installed prior to installing XMetaL Developer. See https://www.visualstudio.com/.

    Your operating system must meet the system requirements for Visual Studio for your particular Windows version. XMetaL Developer supports the following:

    • Windows 11
    • Windows 10
    • Windows 8
    • Windows 8.1
    • Windows 7

    In addition, your system must have the following, or higher:

    • 450-megahertz (MHz) Pentium II-class processor, 600-MHz Pentium III-class processor recommended
    • Super VGA (1024 x 768) or higher-resolution display with 256 colors
    • 1 GB of available disk space (including 800MB required for XMetaL Author Enterprise and XMetaL XMAX)
    • 40 MB extra available disk space during installation

    Required Memory:

    • 320 MB of RAM

    XMetaL Developer runs on the following operating systems:

    • Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, provided user account has administrator privileges and UAC is disabled (as required by Visual Studio)

    Introduction

    XMetaL Developer is a plug-in to the Microsoft® Visual Studio® platform. Using XMetaL Developer, developers and customizers can customize the behavior of XMetaL® Author and/or XMetaL® XMAX™. You can view and modify all aspects of an XMetaL customization including XML DTDs or W3C Schemas, scripts and macros, forms, and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) without having to leave the Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE). Deployment is made easy by using XMetaL Authoring Customization (XAC) sets.
