Did you know ATEX requires facilities that handle combustible dust to have completed an Explosion
Protection Document (EPD)?

Required in ATEX directive 1999/92/EC article 8, EPDs contain the findings of risk assessments of any
work activity involving flammable or combustible atmospheres. If your manufacturing facilities are
based in the EU, or if you sell equipment intended to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres in the
bloc, you must carry out assessments to establish the risks and separate out your workplace using ATEX
zones to control or eliminate risks.

In Fike’s recent webinar Awareness of ATEX EPD’s and Dust Explosions we answered the following questions about EPDs:

  • Who is required to complete an EPD?
  • Can I complete my own EPD, or is a third-party required?
  • Is there an official EPD template?
  • What areas of my process will be analyzed during the EPD?
  • How can I use the EPD to ensure safety and compliance of my facility?
