INOX has introduced a new powder coat finish, the INOX MicroArmor Antimicrobial Coating, to its lines of stainless steel door levers, pulls, deadbolts, push/pull plates and panic devices. The hardware brand has expedited the development and release of this coating in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, due to an increased need for sanitary environments and antimicrobial tools in commercial and residential settings.

“In light of the current COVID-19 health crisis, it was incredibly important to us to focus our research and development on products that can help lessen the spread of harmful bacteria and to make them available to hospitals and healthcare facilities as soon as possible,” said Qianyan Cheng, INOX’s co-founder and vice president of product development.

The coating is infused with silver ions, which attach to microbes’ cellular enzymes to inhibit growth. This reduces the spread of bacteria, fungi, or mold on the hardware. The coating and silver ions are applied and integrated during the manufacturing process, ensuring that the coating will not wear away or lose effectiveness, according to the manufacturer.

The technology is immediately available to all builders and specifiers, and is approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and Japanese Industrial Standard Z 2801 method. inoxproducts.com
