Your voice for healthier minds across the lifespan for all Coloradans

April 2023

Looking ahead: May is Mental Health Month

"Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit.”
– B.K.S. Iyengar

Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in the U.S. since 1949. Every year during the month of May, Mental Health Colorado joins national partners in renewing our call to action, rallying allies, and bringing rekindled energy to efforts to pass laws, change practices, and build a movement to create healthier minds across the lifespan for all Coloradans.

May 1st is Proclamation Day, during which Governor Jared Polis will sign a proclamation, officially making May ‘Mental Health Awareness Month.’ Here’s an excerpt:

WHEREAS, prioritizing and providing culturally competent health care means being responsive to the unique needs and challenges of our underrepresented, marginalized communities and it is critical to address health equity and improve long-term health outcomes for all Coloradans;

THEREFORE, I, Jared Polis, Governor of the State of Colorado, do hereby proclaim May 2023 as MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH in the State of Colorado.

Every month, Mental Health Colorado convenes our Monthly Reports & Updates meeting with Coloradans across the state who are working to disentangle mental health and criminal justice. Each meeting features different speakers who share information about their respective efforts. March’s meeting featured a presentation by Joel Watts & Amy Thurston with the Integrated Insight Therapy IMPACT Team.
