Ending Discrimination

As part of Mental Health Colorado’s efforts to advance policies to promote greater mental well-being, we hope to learn more about individuals’ experiences with discrimination based on their mental health and/or substance use.

You will be able to enter for a chance to win one of three $50 gift cards! This is an anonymous survey, and respondents will not be identified. In response to conversations with brainwave members and other people with lived/living experience, we have created two flyers to help Medicaid members learn more about their rights in Colorado. #CareNotCuffs - Monthly Reports & Updates

Every month, Mental Health Colorado convenes our Monthly Reports & Updates meeting with fellow Coloradans across the state who are working to disentangle mental health and criminal justice. Each meeting features different speakers who share information on their respective efforts.

Become a Certified Addiction Technician (CAT)

Online CAT (certified addiction technician) classes are being offered through the Marriage & Family Institute of Colorado from 8:30am – 3:30pm on select weekends. Full and partial scholarships are available through a generous Work Force Development Grant from the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration.

Certified and licensed addiction counselors possess a body of knowledge, skills, training, and work experience in the treatment of addictive behaviors.

* These classes are recognized by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) for CAT credentialing.

The Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) has started its rulemaking process regarding its licensing structure. Beginning December 2, 2022, the BHA has hosted virtual stakeholder meetings on Fridays from 10:00am -12:00pm. A View from Washington, D.C.

Earlier this month, Mental Health Colorado alongside 50 national- and state-based organizations signed a letter to Congress urging the inclusion of the Non-Opioids Prevent Addiction in the Nation Act. This bipartisan, federal policy would incentivize non-opioid approaches to manage acute, post-surgical pain. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through its Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), is proposing expanded access to treatment for opioid use disorder. Specifically, the proposed rule change would allow Americans to take home doses of methadone and the use of telehealth in initiating buprenorphine at opioid treatment programs.
