Practical Advice: Rural Health Clinic Medicare Cost Report and Survey Readiness

Overview

Keeping up-to-date on compliance, regulatory requirements of a Rural Health Clinic (RHC), and the items impacting the Medicare reimbursement of a RHC is a never ending-obligation. This session will provide practical advice to assist RHC leaders on hot button topics of the cost report, MACRA, and common deficiencies found during the RHC survey process.

  • Identify reimbursement opportunities and common pitfalls for RHC Medicare cost report
  • Discuss the potential MACRA impact to a RHC
  • Review the key members and requirements of the yearly RHC program evaluation
  • Identify methods of ongoing RHC program evaluation

He specializes in assisting CAHs and RHCs with compliance on Medicare, Medicaid and other third-party reimbursement rules and regulations to achieve proper reimbursement for services performed. Brian also provides education to staff, board members and constituents on Medicare reimbursement for rural providers.

Bruce Davidson | Health Care Consulting Manager
Bruce has more than 40 years of experience in the health care industry including 36 years as a registered nurse. He has 12 years of experience as a President and CEO of home health in multiple locations that include day-to-day operations, budgeting, marketing, governance, compliance, strategic planning, productivity analysis, third-party reimbursement, and startup of agencies. Bruce has experience assisting organizations in the application process for Rural Health Clinics.

Overview

CMS continues to focus on the shift from volume of services provided to the value of these services with focus on reduction and prevention of chronic diseases. 2017 has brought changes to the billing codes and supervision requirements for some of these preventive services.  

This session will address billing and HCPCS code changes for rural health clinic service offerings. We will discuss the importance of diagnosis reporting to assure proper reporting of patient acuity for expected utilization of chronic as well as acute illnesses. In addition, we will also review common billing issues encountered by rural health clinics.

  • Determine proper use of modifiers
  • Discuss reporting requirements for non-RHC professional services
