As a result of a partnership between Michigan Education Special Services Association (MESSA) and the Delta Dental Foundation (DDF), 61 schools across the state will receive brand new water fountains/bottle filling stations as part of a program designed to encourage students to drink more water during the school day.
Increased access to cold, filtered water throughout the school day gives students a healthy alternative to sugary beverages like soda pop and sports drinks. Drinking plenty of water can help combat obesity, increase energy levels and may improve students’ cognitive functions.
The schools selected to receive new filling stations will be implementing campaigns to encourage students to make water their drink of choice. To support these efforts, Delta Dental and MESSA will also be providing all students and staff with reusable water bottles.
