Comprehensive Evaluation provides an in-depth understanding of collection performance and the efficiency and effectiveness of the collection management effort. Using a combination of data analysis and on-site reviews, Comprehensive Evaluation experts focus on streamlining processes and maximizing collection material and staffing budgets. 

This service includes:

Collections Performance: Evaluate the balance, spend effectiveness, circulation by category and state of the core collection.

Selection Processes: Assess the science and art of the selection processes, review budgets and budgeting process, selection resources used, personnel expertise and costs, unit organization and methods of evaluating selection decisions. 

Acquisition Process: Evaluate the entire acquisition process including acquisition and ordering systems used, vendor contracts, discounts and processing costs, vendor performance, use of on-order information and accessioning new materials in the integrated library system (ILS).

Weeding/Disposal Process: Evaluate the policies and practices of culling the collections based on circulation and material condition.

Catalog Management: Evaluate the overall quality of the catalog including authority control, quality of records, number of duplicate records and how accurately the catalog reflects actual holdings.

Collections Merchandising & Marketing: Review extent and effectiveness of merchandising and promoting physical and digital collections along with program tie-ins.

Shelving Allocation & Physical Condition: Review shelving allocations using collection and circulation percentages, condition of physical assets and available space.

Resource Stewardship: Assess theft and fines policies, procedures and practices.
