This Month's Highlights

The TRACE newsletter has been refreshed for 2017. A new edition of the TRACE Matrix, the global business bribery risk index, has been released. A number of enforcement actions were announced in the compendium this month including General Cable Corporation ($75.7 million), Mondel─ôz International, Inc. ($13 million) and Zimmer Biomet Holdings, Inc. ($30.4 million). Learn more about using compliance as a business strategy. Spotlight On: The TRACE Matrix

The TRACE Matrix measures business bribery risk in 199 countries and is the Global Business Bribery Risk Index for the compliance community. A total of 14 scores across four domains and nine sub-domains provides companies with detailed information on the nature and extent of the specific business bribery risks they are likely to face when operating in foreign markets.

Compendium Roundup

This month, a number of enforcement actions were announced, with General Cable Corporation, Mondel─ôz International, Inc., Zimmer Biomet Holdings, Inc. and Orthofix International N.V. all settling allegations by U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”) and/or the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”).  
 
Also this month, Rolls-Royce Holdings plc agreed to pay more than US $1.2 billion in penalties and disgorgement to resolve investigations by the DOJ, the U.K. Serious Fraud Office and the Brazilian Ministério Público Federal. And following a settlement made with the SEC in April 2016, Las Vegas Sands Corp. agreed to pay US $6.9 million in a settlement with the DOJ.
