The John Holland-led consortium has secured an A$1bn ($742.8m) contract for Rail Infrastructure Alliance’s works package of the Melbourne Metro Rail Project.

The contractual scope includes station upgrades, track establishment, and signalling and tunnel works along the Sunbury and Dandenong lines. A 9km-long tunnel will be constructed, along with new tunnel entrances in South Yarra and Kensington.

The project is intended to reduce the traffic congestion in Melbourne.

Other partners of the consortium include AECOM and CPB Contractors.

Deutsche Bahn has signed a co-operation agreement with Siemens for the Digital S‐Bahn Hamburg project.

The project is intended to develop a highly automated S-Bahn railway network in the Hamburg region.

The 23km-long S-Bahn Line 21 section connecting Berliner Tor and Bergedorf/Aumühle stations will be fully automated and four trains equipped with relevant technology will run across the line.

Jacobs Engineering Group has received a contract from Etihad Rail to offer technical and programme consulting services for the freight and passenger railway network in the UAE.

Jacobs will oversee the development of the 900km rail line network and provide design and engineering services.

French rail infrastructure services provider SNCF Reseau Bourgogne Franche-Comte has secured €915m ($1.06bn) through a public offering of senior notes.

The notes will pay an annual interest rate of 4.12% until they mature in March 2062.

OmniTRAX affiliate company HGS Railway has completed the acquisition of CSX’s Alabama & Tennessee River Railway, LLC (ATN) and the Fulton County Railway, LLC (FCR) rail lines for an undisclosed sum.

The operations on the ATN and FCR rail lines have been managed by OmniTRAX for a long time and will continue to be operated by the same company even after the acquisition.
