Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) in the UK has formed a commission to deliver a high-speed railway station in Liverpool city centre.
The move was announced by Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram.

To be chaired by Professor Denise Barrett-Baxendale, the commission will include experts from the transport, business and public sector.
It will work with partners assessing different aspects of the project, including size, functions, location and orientation of the station, thereby facilitating development works.
Rotheram said: “Connecting the Liverpool City Region to HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail will both cut journey times and increase capacity, boosting our economy by £15bn.
“In order to make that connection happen, we will need a new station in Liverpool city centre, capable of accommodating HS2 trains, NPR trains and linking in with our local transport infrastructure.”

By GlobalDataEarlier this year, Transport for the North unveiled its Strategic Transport Plan that recognised the need for a new station in the Liverpool City Region to link to HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail.
The connection with these two rail projects will reduce journey times between Liverpool and Manchester to around 23 minutes, and between Liverpool and London to around 89 minutes.
It will also create around 24,000 jobs, 11,000 homes and 3.6 million additional visitors to the city per year.
