India’s Delhi Metro has installed 16 new Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates at two interchange stations of its newly inaugurated section of Line-8 (Magenta Line).

Under the initiative, ten new AFC gates were installed at Hauz Khas and six at Janakpuri West stations.

The additions bring the total number of AFC gates at Hauz Khas and Janakpuri (West) metro stations up to 22 and 12 respectively.

The gates will facilitate the flow of passengers at these two interchange stations, easing congestion.

Last month, Delhi Metro opened the last section of its Magenta corridor, stretching 25.6km from Janakpuri West to Kalkaji Mandir.

“On Line-1 (Red Line) and Line-3 (Blue Line), three more trains have been added on each line, increasing the total number of trains to 29 and 64 respectively.”

The corridor comprises 16 stations with an underground section of 21.8km and an elevated section of 2.9km.

The overall Magenta Line corridor covers 38.2km from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden.

Delhi Metro has also increased the number of trains in multiple lines in order to address increasing passenger demand.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporate Communications executive director Anuj Dayal said: “On Line-1 (Red Line) and Line-3 (Blue Line), three more trains have been added on each line, increasing the total number of trains to 29 and 64 respectively.

“Similarly, on Line-2 (Yellow Line), the total number of trains has increased to 55 from 54. Also, now all trains coming from Vishwavidyalaya are terminating at HUDA City Centre.”

The additions allowed an increase in the frequency of services on these lines, resulting in 25 additional trips on the Red Line and 43 additional trips on the Blue Line.

The total train trips have also improved from 3,650 to 3,735 across the metro network.
