UK’s Network Rail has announced that London Bridge Station will stream live sounds from the Stave Hill Ecological Park in Rotherhithe.

The audio stream installation, called Sounds Interrupted, will be played inside the station entrance at the junction of St Thomas and Bermondsey Street.

The initiative is a part of Soundcamp 2019 and will continue until 10 May, including the weekend of International Dawn Chorus Day.

Besides capturing natural sound from the ecological park, the audio stream will capture various sounds in urban settings.

“We have been able to host a number of exciting and imaginative art installations. Sounds Interrupted is the latest of these.”

Network Rail route stations director Ian Hanson said: “As part of the Thameslink Programme redevelopment of London Bridge station we have been able to host a number of exciting and imaginative art installations. Sounds Interrupted is the latest of these.

“The new station is a vibrant place at the heart of a busy residential and business community. Public artworks add to that vibrancy and make stations more than simply a place where people rush through.”

One of the busiest stations in the UK, London Bridge Station underwent a major transformation in recent years as a part of the £1bn station makeover programme.

The station works, which are part of the larger government-sponsored Thameslink Programme, began in 2013 and were completed last year.

The scope of engineering works included opening up a new concourse with five platforms, two new entrances on Tooley Street and other works.

The tracks at the London Bridge Station were also remodelled to enable additional trains to travel through London Bridge station.
