Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway (MTR) has resumed testing of the signalling system on the Tuen Ma Line, which was suspended following an accident in March.

The testing commenced after a comprehensive review of the signalling system to ensure complete safety during dynamic train trials.

The review was conducted by the contractor of the signalling system, followed by an independent evaluation by an MTR-appointed safety assessor.

Along with the newly built section of the Tuen Ma Line, MTR is set to carry out tests on the Ma On Shan Line and West Rail Line.

The tests will be carried out during non-traffic hours. Last month, MTR restarted testing on the East Rail Line.

MTR operations director Adi Lau said: “The dynamic train tests for the new signalling system on the East Rail Line have been running smoothly since its resumption on 28 May.

“During the dynamic train tests on the Tuen Ma Line, the corporation will continue to closely monitor the testing process and ensure safe railway operations.”

The signalling system is an extension of the existing signalling systems used for the Ma On Shan Line and West Rail Line.

In March, two trains collided near Central station on the Tsuen Wan line during a trial of the signalling system. It prompted MTR to suspend all signal testing activities across the transit system temporarily.
