Bombardier Transportation has been contracted by Transport for London (TfL) to deliver five more BOMBARDIER AVENTRA trains to run on the Elizabeth line in London, UK.

The latest order brings the total trains ordered by TfL to 70.

Each highly energy-efficient new train will feature nine cars with a total passenger carrying capacity of 1,500.

The trains will be installed with Bombardier ORBITA and Bombardier Automated Vehicle Inspection System (AVIS).

The £73m ($104m) contract will see the delivery of trains by the end of next year.

Trenes Argentinos Infraestructura (Argentine Railways Infrastructure) has awarded a €16m ($19.6m) resignalling contract to Alstom.

Alstom will refurbish the signalling network across Aristóbulo del Valle, Ciudad Universitaria, Boulogne Sur Mer, Munro and Grand Bourg stations in Argentina, under the contract.

Fiscal and Management Control Board (FMCB) of Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has selected Barletta Heavy Division for the development of the Orange Line Signal System and the Wellington Rail Yard.

Barletta will rebuild the Wellington rail yard and upgrade the existing signalling systems on the Orange Line to ensure timely maintenance of the new fleet.

MBTA intends to complete the project by 2021 to support the deployment of 152 new Orange Line cars.

A consortium led by Nokia has secured a €539m ($662m) GSM-Railway (GSM-R) contract from PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK), a railway operator based in Poland.

Nokia will install and maintain 13,800km of GSM-R network and oversee the operations of optical fibre-based backhaul network infrastructure.

The five-year contract enables PKP PLK to comply with the standards of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) and enhance the reliability of train network in the country.

Other members of the consortium include Herkules, Pozbud and Wasko.

Bombardier has secured a $54m upgrade contract from VIA Rail based in Canada.

The contract will see Bombardier refurbishing 17 rail cars built in 1950 into stainless-steel structures within a period of five years.

The renovated rail cars will feature wheelchair lifts, display screens and accessible washrooms.
