Teltronic was awarded a contract by Trensurb for replacing the communications system of the Porto Alegre Metro network in Brazil.

Teltronic will provide the latest version of TETRA’s communications system to replace the antiquated analogue system. It will be deployed across the metro network of Rio Grande do Sul for modernising voice and data communications along the metro lines.

French Development Agency (AFD) has agreed to provide a credit facility to the Government of India’s Department of Economic Affairs (DEA).

The €245m ($281m) loan will extend the AFD’s bilateral funding for the Pune Metro project, which is being developed by Maharashtra Metro Rail (MAHA-METRO), a special joint venture (JV) vehicle equally owned by the state and union governments.

The estimated cost of the entire project is Rs114.2bn ($1.61bn), of which Rs58.31bn ($820m) will be sourced through loans.

The credit facility will be used for financing system packages including signalling, power supply, OHE, telecom and certain other civil works.

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed an agreement to offer technical assistance for the improvement of railways in the Central Asian region.

ADB has approved a regional technical assistance grant of $2m for supporting railway transport market research and development of a regional rail traffic model for Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) countries.

The funds will also help in selecting and strategising priority bankable investment projects, while enabling the CAREC countries to gain expertise in financial restructuring, marketing, asset management, interoperability and railway safety.

DB Cargo UK and Maritime Transport have partnered to launch Maritime Intermodal for improving intermodal capacity and contributing to the growth of rail freight in the country.

DB Cargo UK will run Maritime Intermodal’s rail operations out of Felixstowe and Southampton, whereas Maritime Transport will take over DB Cargo UK’s existing customers at the two ports. It will also control DB Cargo’s terminals at Trafford Park in Manchester and Wakefield in West Yorkshire.

Maritime Intermodal is also expected to invest at the two sites for enhancing terminal turnaround times and container storage capacities.

DB Cargo will retain the rest of its intermodal business, including services to and from Scotland.

Trimble has been selected by Norske tog AS (NT) to deliver its E2M system for handling rolling stock data in Norway.

The Trimble E2M engineering asset and maintenance management system will provide a complete synopsis of important data on rail assets to NT and other Norwegian rail franchises. It will also offer specifics about the maintenance programme and history of rail assets.

The rail asset data will streamline maintenance work schedules, revise technical documentation and maintenance programmes, and ensure that rolling stock fulfils the requirements of government and regulatory agencies.
