Bombardier Transportation has secured a $305m contract from the city of Phoenix to extend the PHX Sky Train automated people mover (APM) system at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in the US.

The contract, which represents Stage 2 of the system, involves the construction of a 2.5 mile extension to the airport’s rental car centre, two new stations and the expansion of the system’s maintenance facility.

It also includes the delivery of 24 Bombardier INNOVIA APM 200 vehicles with the option of three additional vehicles.

In 2009, Bombardier received a contract for Stage 1 of the system when it supplied all electrical and mechanical equipment including Bombardier CITYFLO 650 automatic train control technology.

Furthermore, Bombardier is responsible for the operations and maintenance services of the system, which started operating in 2013.

Recently, Bombardier has extended the contract with Transport for London (TfL) to service the trains operating on the London Overground network to May 2030. This contract extension is valued at nearly $149m.
