Ahmedabad Metro project in the Indian state of Gujarat is set to undergo trials next month as the first train has been shipped from South Korea.

The officials of Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) told The Times of India that the first train comprising three coaches has been shipped by rolling stock manufacturer Hyundai Rotem.

The train is expected to reach the Mundra port by the end of this month. Once delivered, it is expected to undergo trial runs in January.

MEGA managing director I P Gautam was quoted by The Indian Express as saying: “The first train will reach the Apparel Park depot by 2 January 2019. We will take about ten days to assemble it and conduct some tests.

“It will be ready for a trial run before or during the Vibrant Gujarat summit.”

The trial run is expected to be conducted on a 6km section of the nearly 40km long Phase-I of the project between Vastral Gam and Apparel Park of East-West Corridor.

The second train is expected to reach Ahmedabad by 26 January.

Comprising two corridors and 32 stations, the Ahmedabad Metro project will connect four corners of the city.

The 18.52km long North-South Corridor will run from Motera Stadium to APMC. The section will be completely elevated with 15 stations.

Connecting Vastral Gaam to Thaltej Gaam, the East-West Corridor will be 21.16km long with a nearly 6km underground section. It will feature 17 stations.
