The project is estimated to reduce travel time between Wadala to Kasarvadavali significantly and provide interconnectivity between the eastern expressway, central railway, and partially operational Mumbai Monorail.

It will also be connected to the proposed Metro Line 2B (from Nagar to Mandale), and the proposed Metro Lines 5 (Thane to Kalyan), 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli) and 8 (Wadala to GPO).

Under the contract, Louis Berger will be responsible for preparing, packaging and finalising tender documents for system contracts.

The company will also verify and approve all civil and system contract design submissions including rolling stock, the supervision of all construction activities, and the integration of systems.

Other works will include supervising and reporting progress of all associated works, safety and quality at work sites, and supervision of system trials and system integration.

Louis Berger Asia senior vice-president and managing director Kshitish Nadgauda said: “This metro line is a welcome addition for the people of Mumbai. It will help alleviate traffic congestion and provide better connectivity between central Mumbai and the Thane district.”
